BLOG: The Same Storm

Another day but the same storm.

Today, the center of the storm has drifted down into the Carolinas. That has kicked up our winds a bit and forced them around to the east. This easterly wind is keeping temperatures down a few degrees from yesterday while creating a huge moisture connection with the Atlantic. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are being pulled into and across the state already and will continue tonight into tomorrow morning.

The center of this storm is still disconnected from the jetstream, so that's why there is nothing pushing it away. Another storm moving into the West will eventually force our storm to weaken and leave. However, that's not going to happen until Friday or Saturday. This is going to be a progressive pattern but there will still be rounds of showers and thunderstorms until that happens.

Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms again tomorrow. Then, more sunshine will mix in Thursday but still with a scattering of showers and thunderstorms across the state. There will be even more sunshine on Friday, before a round of showers and thunderstorms pops up. And on Saturday, most of the day is looking good. However, don't be surprised if there is an isolated shower or thunderstorm later Saturday before this storm fully pulls away. Temperatures will also trend up each day with more sunshine, and we will be in the 80s by the weekend.

There is still time! Our fourth annual Weather Field Trip Day at Camden Yards is right around the corner. This year, it will be Thursday, May 26. If you are unfamiliar with the program, it's a day full of fun. We start out with an action, graphics-filled weather program on the field that features helpers like Nicole Sherry (head groundskeeper), Chris Strong from the National Weather Service and, of course, the Bird. Then, everyone takes a lunch break before enjoying an afternoon Orioles game.
