BLOG: Orioles At The 1/4 Pole
We are 40 games into a 162 game season, a quarter of the way home. A 20-20 record sure would have a nice ring to it, if not for the bullpen gagging Monday night, throwing away a 6-0 lead, and losing 8-7. There are plenty of fingers to point. Mike Gonzales, get somebody out! Mark Reynolds, this is the big leagues, you can't butcher a ground ball like that. 3 unearned runs after that. Offense, when you get 7 walks in the first 4 innings, you need to score a few more times than you did. But to me, it comes down to Kevin Gregg. You're the closer. You come into a 7-6 game. Whatever happened before is irrelevant. You get a one run lead, and you walk two straight guys. One of those guys, Pedroia, you had 0-2. And then you gave up the game winner. You're the closer. Get 3 outs before you give up 1 run. Simple, at least it should be. If they hit you, fine. But 2 walks, and both score. Game over. Unacceptable!
