Md. High School Boy Denied Release In Handgun Case

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A judge in Frederick is ordering continued juvenile detention for a high school student accused of bringing a loaded handgun and extra ammunition to school.

Circuit Judge John Tisdale denied a public defender's motion Tuesday to let the teen to go home, seven weeks after his arrest.

Tisdale ordered the boy to remain in juvenile detention until space opens up in a behavior modification program.

The teenager was 15 when he was arrested for bringing a .22-caliber handgun to Tuscarora High School March 29.

A school system spokeswoman said at the time that the boy showed the gun to others but didn't threaten anyone.

He faces four firearms charges, including being underage in the possession of a regulated firearm and having the weapon on school property.
