Prince George's Leaders Weigh One-Time Bonuses
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- The Prince George's County Council has rejected a 2 percent raise for about 1,500 municipal employees, though county leaders say they'd be open to considering a one-time bonus for workers.
The council in a 5-3 vote Tuesday rejected a raise for 1,500 unionized employees. Meanwhile, council chairwoman Ingrid Turner is in discussions about a possible one-time bonus for the nearly 6,000 people who work for the county. The bonuses would not affect pensions or future raises and are estimated to cost $5 million to $6 million in the fiscal year that starts July 1.
County Executive Rushern Baker III says he's willing to seriously consider the bonuses, though he has strongly objected to the 2 percent pay increases.
