BLOG: Severe Thunderstorm Watch

The stormy weather pattern is going to take over Maryland again this week. Unlike last week, it will be much warmer with more sunshine.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been posted for a lot of Maryland - not the Eastern Shore. It is in effect through 6 p.m. A line of showers is moving across the state and will build up into more thunderstorms the farther east it goes. If any storm goes severe, we will be passing along the warnings to you both on the tv and wjz.com side.

Thunderstorms will wind down overnight, but there will be another round of showers and thunderstorms developing again tomorrow. This round also has the chance to become strong or maybe even severe. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger into Wednesday before this storm system fully leaves. However, there are a few more storms lined up to take the same track out of the Plains up into New England. All the while, they will continue to pump up the warmth ahead of them.

The next storm will move our way late Thursday into Friday. Thursday is a big day here in the WJZ weather department. It's our 4th annual Weather Field Trip day at Camden Yards. We will be watching this forecast closely. Right now, it looks like there could be a shower or thunderstorm during the day Thursday but the main storm holds off until Thursday night. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible on Friday. Then, there could be a round of showers or thunderstorms late Saturday, too.

Highs will climb back into the 80s again tomorrow, then spike to the upper 80s Wednesday and Thursday. Even when a few degrees get knocked off the highs, they will still be in the 80s Friday and Saturday.

ATTENTION TEACHERS AND STUDENTS:

There is still time! Our fourth annual Weather Field Trip Day at Camden Yards is right around the corner. This year, it will be Thursday, May 26. If you are unfamiliar with the program, it's a day full of fun. We start out with an action, graphics-filled weather program on the field that features helpers like Nicole Sherry (head groundskeeper), Chris Strong from the National Weather Service and, of course, the Bird. Then, everyone takes a lunch break before enjoying an afternoon Orioles game.
