Md. Flags At Half-Staff To Honor State Trooper
LAUREL, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley has ordered the Maryland flag be flown at half-staff in memory of a trooper who was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 over the weekend.
Police say Trooper First Class Shaft Hunter, 39, may have been pursuing a speeding motorcycle when his vehicle hit a tractor trailer early Saturday.
A witness reported being passed by a speeding motorcycle and then a state police cruiser, which then hit the tractor trailer.
Police say Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
State officials say the flag will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of the funeral. Funeral plans have not yet been set.
