WJZ Holds 4th Annual Weather/Field Trip Day At Camden Yards
BALTIMORE (WJZ) – It's that time of year again where weather and baseball join together for a double play of fun for area students.
"We're coming here to learn about the weather and also watch the Orioles play," said a student.
WJZ's First Warning Weather Team, MASN and the Baltimore Orioles joined forces again for a fun-filled day of learning about weather and baseball at the 4th Annual Weather/Field Trip Day at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
"What this does is cement the relationship between the Orioles, MASN, WJZ and the community. It's a fun time for everybody and it's a learning experience," said Jay Newman, WJZ general manager.
The weather presentation began at 10 a.m. Thursday and the ceremonial first pitch of the game was thrown out by WJZ meteorologist Bernadette Woods.
The Orioles took on the Kansas City Royals and won in extra innings.
Bob Turk and meteorologists Woods and Tim Williams talked about the environment, jet stream, clouds, winter weather, severe weather and hurricanes.
Chris Strong from the National Weather Service, The Maryland Science Center and Nicole Sherry, head groundskeeper of the Orioles, also participated.
It was a day full of fun with valuable safety lessons learned.
Students know their stuff.
"Turn around and don't drown. When thunder roars, go indoors," said students.
More than 8,000 students, teachers and parents attended Weather Day. Most were from Maryland, but some came from Delaware and Pennsylvania for this warm day of baseball and weather.
