Ocean City Hosts Free-For-All For Tourists

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- If you're going to the Ocean City Boardwalk on a budget this holiday weekend, there are some deals to be had. And you don't have to search for them.

As Gigi Barnett explains, the bargains are all listed in one easy place.

With gas prices at near record levels it takes some creativity to get to Ocean City these days.

"I swam from Charleston and I'm tired," said an Ocean City visitor. "It's going to take me three days to recover and by that time my vacation is going to be over."

For those taking the traditional route and looking to save, the boardwalk boasts bargains.

"The other good thing is that there are not debtors' prisons these days, so that helps," said Ocean City visitor, George Levasseur.

This helps, too. There's a new website launched by Ocean City officials that lists all of the freebies in one find.

"I didn't do that this year. I should have, but I didn't do that," said visitor, Kara Quesenberry.

It could mean the difference between searching for deals or a spot in the sand.

Ocean City visitors can find almost everything on the freebies website, from hotel bargains, to restaurant deals and even free events. The city says it created the website to off-set the high price of gas.

"We know it's a tough time. We want people to come and we want them to really enjoy their experience while they're here. And we're going to help them do it," said Ocean City Mayor, Rick Meehan.
