Maintain A Md. Park Trail For National Trails Day

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- National Trails Day is next weekend and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to help maintain trails at state parks across Maryland.

Events are being held nationwide Saturday, including at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, and Gunpowder Falls State Park and Patapsco Valley State Park in Baltimore County.

The American Hiking Society says National Trails Day was launched in 1993. The society says the event evolved from a 1987 report by a presidential commission. The commission recommended all Americans should be able to walk out their doors and reach a trail in 15 minutes.
