Teen Victim Of Quadruple Shooting Remembered In Vigil

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A heartbroken community made their grief public Monday night, filling the streets to remember a murdered 12-year-old.

Mike Hellgren reports from Northeast Baltimore on the outpouring of emotions and the search for a killer.

"Sometimes we don't understand why things happen in our lives," said one person.

Their voices are strong and their tears are real. More than 100 people came to the spot where Sean Johnson, 12, was gunned down last week to grieve and spread a message. They're fed up with this senseless violence.

"Sean didn't deserve to be shot down like a dog in the street. He really didn't. I hope this brings some kind of change. I really do," said family friend, Vonda Cole.

Johnson was with friends when someone rounded the corner on Cliftview Avenue near Clifton Park and opened fire, hitting four people. He's the only one who didn't make it after he was shot in the head. The killer remains on the loose.

"I really don't know how the person who did this can sleep at night," said Sean's aunt, Trina Holmes. "Nobody deserves to lose a child's life to the city streets."

"I am really angry. I know I can't take the law into my own hands because I was a police officer for more than 20 years," said his football coach, Gary Best. "Whoever did it, they need to turn themselves in."

Police believe people know who shot Johnson, but are keeping quiet. Loved ones are heartbroken but vow one of the city's youngest murder victims did not die in vain.

"Children are terrified. They are terrified," said Cole. "It's enough. Enough is enough."

Johnson's family says they simply want whoever is behind this brought to justice. Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call police. You do not have to give them your name.
