Ex-Secret Service Agent To Run For Senate

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former Secret Service agent says he is running for U.S. Senate from Maryland.

Daniel Bongino, a Severna Park resident who also worked for the New York City police department, announced Tuesday that he would seek the seat held by Ben Cardin, who was elected to the Senate in 2006.

Bongino, 36 and a Republican, says he is entering the 2012 race because political leaders are making America a follower rather than a leader in the global economy.

Brian Murphy will be Bongino's campaign chairman. Murphy is a former Republican candidate for governor.
