Md. Man Hurt In I-81 Crash Tied To Pothole Repair

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) -- A Funkstown man is recovering from serious injuries he suffered when his car rear-ended a tractor-trailer in backed-up traffic on Interstate 81 near Hagerstown.

Maryland State Police say Thomas McDonald, 45, failed to notice the stopped truck in a southbound lane about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the backup was caused by State Highway Administration emergency work to repair a pothole on the Potomac River bridge. The work closed one southbound lane and caused traffic to slow to a crawl for several miles.

McDonald was flown to a hospital in Baltimore.
