Chinese Company To Open U.S. Operation In Md.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- One of China's leading biopharmaceutical companies plans to invest $40 million in a new U.S. operation in Montgomery County.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley made the announcement Thursday while on an economic development trip to Asia.

The company, Tasly Group, said in a release that it plans to open a 430,000-square-foot production facility and training center for traditional Chinese medicine in the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center in Rockville. The complex would create dozens of jobs over the next three years.

Tasly Group officials say they are preparing to conduct clinical trials of a traditional Chinese medicine product to treat and prevent coronary disease.
