U.S. Soldier Posts Video Expressing Frustration Over Airline Baggage Fees

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Frustration over airline baggage fees prompts a U.S. soldier to post his story online.

Vic Carter reports it happened at BWI Thurgood Marshall and now it's prompting change.

A group of U.S. soldiers posted a YouTube video after taking off from BWI Tuesday.  The soldiers say Delta Airlines charged them $200 for each piece of extra baggage.  That came to a total of $2,800 in extra baggage fees.

"We had four bags but Delta only allows three bags. So anything over three bags, you have to pay for, even though there is a contract between the U.S. government and Delta Airlines," said a soldier.

The video quickly spread across the Internet, sparking outrage across the country.  In response Delta Airlines is now changing its policy and will allow troops traveling in first and business class five free bags and four free bags for servicemembers in coach.

Delta also issued a statement saying, "We regret that this experience caused these soldiers to feel anything but welcome on their return home.  We honor their service and are grateful for the sacrifices of our military servicemembers and their families."

A number of other airlines have policies similar to Delta's original one, which allows three free bags.
