Boy Rescued From Chester River In Md.; Man Missing

CHESTERTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say they have rescued a boy who was swept away by a current in the Chester River and are searching for his uncle.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say they will continue searching for James Joseph Schmidt, 47, on Thursday. Police say Schmidt was trying to rescue his 7-year-old nephew from the river when he too was swept away by the current Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they were called the scene by the Schmidt's father, Charles Blevins, 64. Authorities say Schmidt, Blevins and the boy had been fishing on the river near Chestertown when the boy entered the water to cool off.

The boy was found about a quarter-mile away from the boat. He was taken to a hospital as precaution.
