MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — FBI officials in Minneapolis are apologizing for characterizing two homicide victims as gang members.

The FBI office issued a correction Friday to a statement released a day earlier.

The initial statement announced the arrest of a 29-year-old Maryland fugitive who was wanted in connection with a 2006 double killing in Baltimore. It had said the victims were members of the 18th Street Gang.

The FBI now says the description was incorrect and that the victims weren’t affiliated with any gang.

A federal arrest warrant for the suspect was issued last year.

Authorities learned he was living in the Worthington area of southwest Minnesota. FBI agents arrested him Wednesday at a bank drive-through.

He’s in jail awaiting extradition to Maryland. Two other suspects in the killings remain at large.
