W.Va. Man Charged With Shooting Ex-Girlfriend

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A West Virginia man taken into custody after a seven-hour standoff in Hagerstown has been charged with the attempted murder of a former girlfriend.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says Randy McPeak, 43, was charged Saturday with attempted murder and related offenses. He's accused of shooting Heather Harris in the head Friday at a home on Dual Highway. McPeak surrendered to police after barricading himself inside the home for seven hours.

A spokeswoman for Meritus Medical Center said Sunday that Harris remains in critical condition.
