Frederick Schools Announce Labor Deals

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) --  The Frederick County school board is announcing tentative contract agreements with its teachers, staff and administrators.

The board said Tuesday the deals still must be ratified by members of the three collective-bargaining units.

None of the deals contains a wage or cost-of-living increase even though employees have gone three years without raises. Bargainers can reopen negotiations on wages during the life of the contracts, however.

Instead of raises, the tentative agreements include increased benefits such as additional personal leave time, a cash-out option for unused leave and school-board contributions toward a state-mandated increase in employee pension costs.

The teacher and staff contracts would be for three years. The administrators' contract would be for five.
