Military Spending On The Agenda As U.S. Mayors Meet

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Mayors from across the United States will be gathering in Baltimore this week and foreign policy will be on their minds.

Topics on the agenda for the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting include a resolution to speed the end of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and redirect military spending to domestic priorities. The resolution says $126 billion is being spent each year on the wars and calls on Congress to bring those dollars home to create jobs, rebuild infrastructure, develop sustainable energy and provide for other needs.

The conference represents mayors of the more than 1,200 cities nationwide with a population of more than 30,000. Speakers include House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The conference begins Friday and ends Monday.
