Asia Trip Cost More Than $144,000

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley's recent 10-day trip to Asia cost about $144,000 for five people.

The O'Malley administration released the cost of the economic development trip to China, South Korea and Vietnam on Friday.

Airfare, meals and incidentals cost about $43,000. Hotels, meeting room rentals, ground transportation, cultural exchange gifts, visas, business cards and printing for a book added up to about $101,000.

The five people included O'Malley, governor's office director Sam Clark, Director of Ethnic Commissions David Lee, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Christian Johansson and DBED's Asia regional manager Brad Gillenwater.

The expenses do not include costs for the governor's security detail. The trip included a 68-member delegation. Various
representatives from Maryland businesses who made the trip paid their own way.
