Regents Authorize Tuition Increases

BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- The University System of Maryland Board of Regents has voted for a 3 percent tuition increase at the state's public colleges and universities for resident undergraduates, except for Salisbury University where a 6 percent increase has been approved.

The board voted Friday to authorize the increases during a meeting at Bowie State University. The higher increase at Salisbury University is being described as the first in a series of market adjustments.

Out-of-state undergraduate tuition will be reduced by about 36 percent, or about $4,600, at Coppin State University in an effort to attract more students from outside Maryland. Out-of-state undergraduate tuition will increase by 5 percent at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The board estimates that projected fiscal year 2012 tuition and fee revenue will increase $37.8 million, compared to the 2011 tuition and fee revenue.
