Flag Damaged At Ground Zero Comes To Md.

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) --  A giant U.S. flag damaged in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack in New York is coming to Frederick for a charity event involving needles and thread.

The 9/11 Flag Tour stops Saturday in Frederick. Organizers say it is the only Maryland stop on the 50-state schedule.

Visitors to the event at Frederick Community College will be asked to help stitch a missing red stripe onto the 20-by-30-foot banner.

The tour benefits the New York Says Thank You Foundation. The organization was established by New York business leaders to thank Americans for their support by sending volunteers from New York City to other U.S. communities affected by natural or man-made disasters.

Some of the funds collected in Frederick will provide care packages for U.S. service members overseas.
