Police Investigate String Of Robberies At Towson Town Center

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- Three robberies, one of them at gunpoint, all within two weeks.  Security at Towson Town Center has been stepped up following a series of brazen crimes at the mall.

Tim Williams has more on the suspects and what police say they stole.

There were two robberies within one week.  The victims were merchants at the Towson Town Center in Baltimore County.

"The two incidents are isolated and are not related," said Baltimore County Police Lieutenant Rob McCollough.

Baltimore County Police are looking for several suspects, including one who pulled out a semi-automatic handgun in the middle of the day at the True Religion store near Macy's.

"The suspect in that incident is described as a black male in his 50s, walked into the store at least twice before actually committing the robbery," McCollough said.

Employees say he then told them to move back before grabbing more than two dozen items and fleeing the store.

In the other crime, police say, there were two suspects.

"Both described as being black males in their early 20s, basically broke into one of the kiosks," McCollough said.

They stole nearly $8,000 in cash, sunglasses and jewelry.  Surveillance tapes show two men breaking in a side maintenance door after hours.

"It must be a sign of the time," said Anna Apicella.

Towson residents familiar with the mall are not surprised at these brazen crimes.

"People are really dire.  Sometimes people don't even have the money for the food today just to feed themselves, let alone if they have a child," Apicella said.

"Definitely says to me people are getting desperate to either feed themselves, feed their family or feed their addictions," said Nate Hill.

Management is evaluating safety procedures throughout the mall.

Anyone with information is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020.
