National Aquarium To Release Sea Turtles

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Sea turtles found stranded on Cape Cod will be released this weekend into the Chesapeake Bay.

The National Aquarium has been caring for the Kemp's ridley sea turtles since they came to Baltimore in the winter from the New England Aquarium.

The National Aquarium says Kemp's ridley turtles are the most endangered and the smallest of all the sea turtle species. And they are particularly vulnerable to severe changes in water temperature and were suffering from exposure to the cold when they were found.

The turtles, which have been named Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph, Frosty and Buddy, were rehabilitated by The National Aquarium's Marine Animal Rescue Program.

The public is invited to join the Aquarium on the beach at Point Lookout State Park in southern Maryland for the release Sunday.
