Md. Senators Frustrated Over Oyster Farm Approvals

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two Maryland senators say it is taking too long to approve oyster aquaculture projects in the state.

Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin wrote to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration last week to express their frustration over the amount of time it has taken the agency to approve the projects.

The senators say the agency began reviewing permits more than a year ago. They also say the lack of momentum in the approval process is jeopardizing new fishery jobs and stalling economic opportunities for coastal communities.
