Baltimore Methadone Clinic Opening Delayed 30 Days
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A proposed "open access" methadone clinic for heroin addicts in Baltimore is delaying its launch by 30 days to work out differences with state regulators.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Rev. Milton Williams had planned to open the Turning Point clinic, which promises treatment within 15 minutes, on Tuesday. But state health officials say the clinic did not have approvals and skirting examination requirements for drug treatment may violate federal laws.
Williams proposed the treatment scheme because he was tired of the drugs and crime surrounding his church. He says he is willing to work with officials to make sure the program is ready.
