Plan To Upgrade W.Va. Transmission Lines Requested

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A lawyer with the state Public Service Commission is seeking an order requiring two utility companies to provide a status report on the condition of their high voltage transmission lines in West Virginia.

In his petition, John Auville is asking the PSC to require American Electric Power and FirstEnergy to provide the update
within 30 days.

The request comes as plans to build a new transmission line from West Virginia to Maryland have stalled, and two other state lines are reaching their life expectancy.

In 2008, the PSC required both utilities to provide such an assessment one year after the Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line
became serviceable. That line started operations in May.

Auville says now that the line operational, it's time to speed up the process of looking at other lines.
