WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Portrait Gallery is chronicling the life and political career of President Ronald Reagan in a new exhibit.

A new gallery opening Friday will include a 1985 portrait of Reagan by Andy Warhol in the exhibit “One Life: Ronald Reagan.”

It marks the 100th anniversary of the 40th president’s birth, retracing his years in Illinois, his acting career in Hollywood and his presidency.

The portraits cover the attempted assassination on Reagan, his conflict with Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi and the president’s reaction to a strike by air traffic controllers in 1981. It also includes a bronze sculpture of Reagan as a cowboy by caricaturist Patrick Oliphant and a fragment of the Berlin Wall. A video kiosk includes excerpts of his speeches.

The exhibit will be on view through May 2012.
