Funkstown Will Remove Recycling Bins

FUNKSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Two county recycling bins at the Funkstown fire station will be removed in the coming weeks after problems with dumping.

The fire company's board of directors voted this week to have the bins removed. The president of the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co., Dale Hill, says people have left chairs, lamps and other nonrecyclables at the bins. He says that overflow has also been a problem, with people leaving items outside the bins if they are full.

County Administrator Gregory Murray tells the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the Washington County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to discuss alternatives to unmanned recycling sites this month.
