Frederick Reviving Downtown Hotel Push

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick Mayor Randy McClement is reviving his push for a downtown hotel and conference center.

His director of economic development is asking the Board of Aldermen to approve an application Thursday night for a $30,000 state grant to update a feasibility study that was based on 2-year-old data.

That study concluded there is strong demand for such a complex. The proposed update would outline the size of the project and assess its statewide impact.

The first-term, Republican mayor made a downtown hotel and conference center a part of his 2009 election campaign.

His administration says the Maryland Stadium Authority is willing to help bring the project to fruition.
