Man Rescued From Md. Lake On July 4 Dies

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Police say a man rescued from a Germantown lake on July 4 has died.

Officers say Brian Lamont Walton, 38, of Gaithersburg died Wednesday at a local hospital.

Montgomery County police say a preliminary investigation revealed the man and a friend were operating a
radio-controlled sailboat on Gunners Lake on Monday evening when the boat became disabled. Police say the man swam out to retrieve the boat, and had difficulty making it back to shore. Authorities say the man yelled for help and then disappeared below the water.

Police say the man's friend managed to bring the victim back to shore. Authorities say the friend and a bystander performed CPR on the victim until rescue officials arrived and took him to a hospital.
