Police Investigate Rash Of Violence In Baltimore City

BALTIMORE (WJZ)— A mother killed inside her home is one of four people murdered in Baltimore this weekend.

Mike Hellgren has details on the crime spree and reaction from the people impacted by the violence.

A 10-year-old girl found her mother beaten to death inside their Southeast Baltimore home.

Grief-stricken family members sobbed as medical examiners carted away the body of 41-year-old Patsy Person, found beaten to death on the second floor of her home in the 200-block of Belnord Avenue Sunday.

"I can't believe my baby sister is gone.  I mean, you hear about stuff like this happening, but you never think it could happen to you," said Person's sister, Daffine Perry.

Perry says her sister was home with at least two of her three children when the attack happened.

"He didn't even think about her kids," Perry said.  "They were in the next room."

A neighbor said she found the victim's 10-year-old daughter in the morning outside of the house, crying that her mother was dead.  That neighbor called 911 and then went in the house, where she said she saw the victim partially clothed, lying face down in a large pool of blood.

"I'm angry," said Reggie Parker, Person's brother.

Parker says his sister loved her three children.  She recently graduated from truck driving school and her big yellow truck cab still sits parked on the street in front of her house.

"I just hope that they catch this guy and let justice serve itself.  I hope they give him the death penalty, because no matter what people are going through, that's no way to take another person's life like that," Parker said.

Person is not the only life taken this weekend.  Early Sunday morning, Richard Mills, 46, was stabbed to death in his pickup truck on Gorsuch Avenue.  Around the same time, police found Jarel McFadden, 22, shot in the chest along Lester Morton Court.  Early Saturday morning, a 25-year-old man died after he was stabbed in the leg during a fight at Charles and Fayette streets.

As for Patsy Person's murder, family members say they passed on some important information to police.  A police spokesman would only tell WJZ their detectives are actively pursuing a strong lead in this case.

If you have information on any of these crimes, please call police.
