Overnight Shooting Suspect Arrested After Saturday Crash

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—On the run from police. A man wanted for an overnight shooting ends up crashing a stolen car.

Weijia Jiang tells us police still need help finding another suspect.

Charges are pending against one man, but police are asking for the public's help to find the other one.

Police say a nasty crash involving three vehicles is even more grave than it appears.

Just after 4 p.m. Saturday, officers spotted a stolen 2007 white Mercedes Benz in North Baltimore.

The high speed attempt to flee from police ended abruptly at the intersection of Bell and Ferndale avenues.

"That Mercedes Benz was involved in an accident. It struck two vehicles," said Detective Donnie Moses, Baltimore City Police.

"It was burning when I came out. The car was on fire," said Jerry Wilson, neighbor.

Wilson, who's lived in the house across the street for some 40 years, saw the driver of a van lying on the ground. Police say he was ejected and rushed to the hospital.  Police say he later died of those injuries.  His name has not been released.

"For an accident of this magnitude in this neighborhood, that's shocking that somebody would drive that fast," Wilson said.

Police say it was just after 3 a.m. Saturday when the suspects stole the car from the 2200-block of Liberty Heights Avenue but not before shooting the vehicle owner at least twice.

"One suspect walked up on him, gun in hand and pretty much without warning, shot him," Moses said.

"It's ridiculous," said Aubrey Johnson, of Northwest Baltimore. "I mean, it takes a fool to do something like that. You have no care for nothing in life."

Police have one suspect in custody, who they found hiding behind a house near the scene. They're looking for one more man who may have jumped out of the Mercedes before it crashed.

WJZ has learned the owner of that car who was shot is 23. He's recovering at the hospital and is expected to survive.
