Police: Officer Dragged In Struggle With Suspect

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Police say a suspected drug dealer ran over and dragged an Ocean City officer.

Officers tried to arrest Michael Joseph McGovern, 30, of Williamsport, Pa., early Saturday, after police say he tried to sell marijuana and Ecstasy to an undercover detective, but he fled.

Officers caught up with McGovern as he got into his car and during a struggle, police say he put the car in reverse, striking and dragging an officer. McGovern bailed out of his car during a chase and jumped into the canal near 21st Street.

McGovern was later found at a condominium on Eagle Drive.

Police say McGovern faces several drug and assault charges. The injured officer was treated at Atlantic General Hospital and released.

Thank heavens the officer was not badly injured. What an idiot McGovern is, why didn’t he stay in Pa. to sell his drugs. I have heard it said that Pennsylvania’s think we are Baltimorans, well as far as I am concerned any Pennsylvanian who goes to Maryland to sell their drugs is an Idiot. Plain and simply an idiot. I hope the Ocean City Police throw the whole book at this idiot.
