Police Search For Man Who Shot Gas Station Attendant

BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) -- Police are looking for the man who they say attempted to rob a gas station and shot an employee along a busy intersection.

Jessica Kartalija has the latest on the investigation.

The motive in the shooting is still unclear.  Police say they are determined to track down a suspect and need your help.

Along a bustling Bel Air intersection along Route 24 and West MacPhail Road, police say an armed man walked into an Exxon station.

"Fired his gun, shot the attendant and fled the scene shortly thereafter," said Sgt. Richard Peschek, Bel Air Police.

It happened at 11 p.m. Saturday in what police all a botched robbery attempt.  It's unclear whether the suspect got away with any cash.

The shooting happened just feet from Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, but the victim's injuries required that he be flown to Shock Trauma.

Investigators remained on scene for hours and the search for the suspect continues.  Police say he was last seen wearing a black ski mask, black clothing and black sneakers.

"We are asking anyone who witnessed anything, whether they think it was suspicious or not, around that time, it may be helpful to us," Peschek said.

At last check, the victim is still recovering at Shock Trauma.
