Road Reopens After Police, Car Collide

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- A busy roadway in Silver Spring has reopened following an accident involving a police cruiser and a car.

The collision occurred just before midnight Monday when an officer responding to a call lost control of his cruiser. The vehicle collided with a car on Colesville Road near Sligo Creek Parkway. The car was pushed into a nearby driveway where it collided with two parked cars.

Police say the officer, identified as 25-year-old Brendan Hopkins, and two others suffered non-life threatening injuries. The officer has been released from the hospital, but the driver and passenger in the other car remained hospitalized as of late Tuesday morning.

Colesville Road was shut down from Sligo Creek Parkway to Indian Spring Drive during Tuesday's morning rush hour while police investigated the crash.
