BLOG: Slight Relief

Scattered shower and thunderstorms will be more widespread today. The front will stall between Philadelphia and BWI-Marshall and will act as the trigger for t-storms. The best chance of storms will be in the afternoon. Potential for thunderstorms persists through Monday when a second cold front sweeps eastward through the Mid-Atlantic. Some of the storms generated by this front could be severe, with damaging winds being the biggest concern, despite the very warm and humid weather.

Drier, "cooler" air will follow this cold front on Tuesday. Dewpoints are expected to drop into the low-60s, which will be noticeably better than the past week. An upper-level trough will move through the Northeast as well and help drive the more enjoyable air mass southward. The pattern unfortunately will evolve such that the relatively nice weather will be short-lived as ridging builds in the Plains once again and heads eastward, replacing the broad trough. By late next week we're looking at mid 90s once again with humidity coming up a bit as well.
