Arson Suspected In 2 House Fires In Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Authorities say they are investigating the possibility of arson in a pair of Frederick house fires.

The more serious blaze was reported around 3 a.m. Sunday on Young Place, near Fort Detrick.

Investigators say the homeowner heard a loud bang and found a fire in the carport that spread to the house, causing an estimated $150,000 in damage. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze.

The second fire was reported 30 minutes later about 12 blocks away in the 1500-block of 8th Street.

Investigators say the fire was on the outside of the house, toward the back. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, resulting in minor damage.
