CAMBRIDGE, Md. (AP) — A Cambridge man has been sentenced to six months in jail after prosecutors say he accepted a package in the mail that contained nearly five pounds of marijuana.

Lamont Jones, 40, had entered an Alford plea to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in April.

The Star Democrat of Easton reports that according to court documents, a package addressed to Joe Brown at Jones’ address was found by the Postal Service to contain marijuana. Authorities delivered the package on Aug.4, 2010, and Jones allegedly identified himself as Brown.

Time to legalize and tax pot.
We could take in billions in revenue, nationwide or spend billions fighting this pointless cause.
Either way,the same amount of pot will be consumed.

WE NEED NEW BUSINESS, EVERYONE WANTS IT AND IT’S GOOD TO HAVE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A LIQUOR STORE ON EVERY CORNER. No one smoke a little harmless pot and beat up their wife. They ordererd a pizza and had some relaxation.

The politicians are too stupid and have been in office so long they have lost any common sense they ever had. This victimless crime on the books could bring us right out of this recession if legalized and taxed like alcohol or tobacco, not to mention the savings in hunting down, prosecuting and jailing these so called criminals who are most likely hard working tax paying contributors to our society. There are more of them then most realize and there are plenty in all areas of government. Hell even Thomas Jefferson gtrew and used it as did a good percentage of the founding fathers. WAKE UP FOOLS…………

Only 6 months for 5 lbs. I thought the official policy was to completely destroy anyones life that had more than 1/4″ lb? What happened to spending 50 billion dollars per year converting 1,000,000 non violent tax paying citizens into wards of the state?

6 months is still 6 months too long as long as everyone else can drive down to the corner liqour store and buy a tractor trailor load of hard drugs and then openly store them in there fridge right next to the kiddies lunch pails.

Our government spends $135,000,000 per day on this ridiculous war on drugs. but it only focuses on one herb that is not only harmless but medically and therapeutically invaluable.

Annual cost to enforce the prohibition:
    49,275,000,000 (billion per yr)

Annual cost to feed 1,000,000 non violent cannabis users, now converted into wards of the state:
    58,275,000,000 (billion per yr)

Rough estimate of number of non violent citizens removed from taxpayer status and converted into non taxpaying prisoners: 1,000,000 non violent citizens and millions of their family members forced into poverty (the cost of which is not included in any of the stats stated here).

Value of cannabis sales in the USA alone, with currently every dime of this going to the criminal cartels that manage our nations number one cash crop
    36,000,000,000 (billion per yr)

MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER – In a 1994 study the government tried to suppress, federal researchers gave mice and rats massive doses of THC, looking for cancers or other signs of toxicity. The rodents given THC lived longer and had fewer cancers, “in a dose-dependent manner” (i.e. the more THC they got, the fewer tumors). MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER – Federal researchers implanted several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung cancers, in mice, then treated them with cannabinoids (unique, active components found in marijuana). THC and other cannabinoids shrank tumors and increased the mice’s lifespans. Munson, AE et al. Antineoplastic Activity of Cannabinoids. Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Sept. 1975. p. 597-602

Wish marijuana was legalized. To much money is being spent trying to catch people who possess this drug while that money could be spent catching real criminals. So great job USA yet again.

  9. DOCSRUS says:

MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER – Researchers at the Kaiser-Permanente HMO, funded by NIDA, followed 65,000 patients for nearly a decade, comparing cancer rates among non-smokers, tobacco smokers, and marijuana smokers. Tobacco smokers had much higher rates of lung cancer and other cancers. Marijuana smokers who didn’t also use tobacco had no increase in risk of tobacco-related cancers or of cancer risk overall. In fact their rates of lung and most other cancers were slightly lower than non-smokers. Sidney, S. et al. Marijuana Use and Cancer Incidence (California, United States). Cancer Causes and Control. Vol. 8. Sept. 1997, p. 722-728.

  10. DOCSRUS says:

MARIJUANA MAY PREVENT CANCER – Donald Tashkin, a University of California researcher did a case-control study comparing 1,200 patients with lung, head and neck cancers to a matched group with no cancer. Even the heaviest marijuana smokers had no increased risk of cancer, and had somewhat lower cancer risk than non-smokers (tobacco smokers had a 20-fold increased lung cancer risk). Tashkin D. Marijuana Use and Lung Cancer: Results of a Case-Control Study. American Thoracic Society International Conference. May 23, 2006.

cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease

Big Pharma would rather sell you THEIR drugs at prices that will bankrupt your budget. See” Medical Bills Leading Cause of Bankruptcy, HARVARD Study Finds” Big Pharma is one of the biggest proponents of Cannabis Prohibition. Many of them have the power to make or break a politicians poltical career.

Some members of the Dupont family are another major proponent in favor of Cannabis Prohibition. In fact its widely believed that the Duponts, along with the Hursts and there political friend Anslinger were single handedly responsible for the prohibition of marijuana after 10’s of thousands of years of human use. One of them even has an office right outside of Washington, DC.

The Duponts are a major supplier of chemicals all around the world. They supply billions of dollars worth of herbicides & insecticides to the cotton industry….which used to be in direct competition with hemp (marijuana). Some members of the Dupont family are still actively engaged in keeping the marijuana prohibition in place.

I wouldnt be surprised to find out that some of these same players were heavily vested in prison stocks, SWAT equipment mfgs. (it is an industry too….45,000 raids per year!), “street survival” training schools conveniently located in areas that most people consider holiday spots (Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Orlando).

A few lines from the aforementioned street survival program registration form:

“How many times have you been to our Street Survival Seminar?: choose 1-25 times”.

“Spouses are welcome for an additional $75.00 per night”

“Choose the location that you would like to visit:” (pick your resort)

The truly scary thing about all of this? the majority of the public doesnt seem to have a clue as to whats going on all around them!. It goes much deeper than “the government cant collect taxes on it”. Yes, they can, who has 3 months to sit around waiting for a Cannabis plant to grown when they could go down to the corner liqour store and buy a nice bag of gourmet Kona Buds ready to smoke and tax stamp attached?

    1. DOCSRUS says:

oh yeah! I forgot to mention…..those billions of dollars worth of herbicides and insecticides that Dupont supplies to the cotton industry……..there NOT needed for Marijuana cultivation. Marijuana has been described as an invasive weed with the ability to thrive where no other plants will grow. Probably another reason why many cultures refer ro it as the Tree of Life. Well that and the fact it can be used to make fabric, oil, medicine and nutritional products (contains ALL 21 amino acids AND the perfect ratio of Omega 6 & 3). It truly is a botanical and medical wonder.
