NORAD Conducting Training Flights Over D.C. Area

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. military says it is conducting overnight training flights in the Washington area to test the region's aerospace defenses.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command says the training flights will be made between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The series of training flights is being held in coordination with agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Capital Region Coordination Center, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center, Civil Air Patrol, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

NORAD says the exercise is designed to hone its intercept and identification operations and test the NCR visual warning system.
