Metro To Replace Escalators At Bethesda Station In 2014

WASHINGTON (AP)-- Metro says it plans to replace the long entrance escalators at the Bethesda station, but it won't be anytime soon.

According to a statement from the transit agency, Metro General Manager Rich Sarles told the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that the three escalators will be replaced in 2014. However, Sarles says he has asked his staff to review the maintenance schedule to see if there is any way to speed up the project.

About 23,000 people use the Bethesda station daily, and its escalators often have problems. Metro is currently replacing three escalators at the Foggy Bottom station, and has plans to replace escalators at other stations.
