BLOG: More Heat, No Rain

Well, we missed out on needed rainfall yesterday as a series of frontal systems moved through the region, and in the wake of these fronts will come drier and slightly "cooler" air. Fortunately humidity will be kept in check, but that's about the most optimistic aspect of the forecast. Dry conditions hold through Sunday with rainfall possibly returning, albeit in an isolated fashion, for Monday evening. A weak warm front will move through early on with a trailing cold front pushing across the Great Lakes around midday. Given the frontal forcing and a broad upper-level trough digging into the Northeast a stray shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out during the evening hours, but with relatively dry air in place it's going to be difficult to get much going across the region. I'd place rainfall chances at about 20 percent at this juncture for the Baltimore area and a little higher to the north, approaching 30 percent. Dry for Tuesday with Wednesday a lot like Monday.

Another weak system moves across the Northeast with a trailing frontal boundary. Some model guidance is a little more bullish with regard to the warm-advection type rainfall early Wednesday. This bears some watching energy associated with thunderstorms in the Desert Southwest this morning rounds the top of the ridge in the central US.

Good news is that ridiculous heat doesn't appear to be around the corner... the bad news is that not a lot of rainfall is expected either aside from our low prospect for appreciable rains on Wednesday. I suppose we'll take any "victory" that we can though with triple-digit reading not expected for the next several days...

Have a great day!
