NEW YORK (AP) — The Orioles optioned right-hander Jason Berken to Triple-A Norfolk and recalled two left-handed pitchers from Double-A Bowie.
Berken allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Yankees, who scored 12 runs in the first inning and won 17-3.
Pedro Viola was recalled from the Baysox and Mike Ballard’s contract was purchased. Viola gave up four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings with the Orioles earlier this season.
Ballard was demoted from Norfolk earlier this season, but has been dominant with the Baysox. He has struck out 67 and walked four in 65 2/3 innings.
