National Aquarium In Baltimore Celebrates 30 Years

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Thirty years and 44 million visitors later, the National Aquarium in Baltimore is marking a major milestone.

Jessica Kartalija has more on the festivities planned for the aquarium's 30th birthday.

A major milestone as the national aquarium celebrates the big 3-0!

"Happy Birthday, Baltimore aquarium!" screams a fan.

Who better to start the party than SpongeBob SquarePants?

The giant yellow porifera in a tie and short shorts joined kids of all ages at a birthday celebration that includes bean bags, drum circles and coloring.

The festivities continue all weekend with family activities like crafts, music and face painting.

"Happy Birthday, Baltimore aquarium!" says an excited visitor. "Thank you so much for the invite! We love being here. You're the best!"

If you are turning 30 this year, present your ID and admission to the aquarium is $5. (Regular adult admission is $24.95.) Also enjoy a free cupcake! The 1,000 cupcakes on display are also available for purchase.
