Pikesville Farmers' Market Gets New Location

PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Crops need room to grow, and so do farmers' markets.  After losing one location in Pikesville, the market there is putting down roots in a new spot.

Alex DeMetrick reports that's a help for shoppers and farmers alike.

People and produce are mingling again in Pikesville.  After losing a spot in the library parking lot, Office Depot made space available, bringing in new customers.

"I come out from the Office Depot and I felt like, oh, let me check it out," said Victoria Nwmba.

"It's my first time here and I'm seeing new fruits that I hadn't seen before.  It's very exciting," said Marjorie Doroshow.

The fruits and vegetables and McLeaf's Orchard stand are from north of Gettysburg.  For the farm, the drive to Pikesville is worth every mile.

"We're the fifth generation and the farm wasn't doing very well," said Corey McLeaf.  "The farmers' market turned things around."

"I know some people are afraid of competition," said Marie Detwiler, Farm Girls Produce.  "I look at competition as a good thing."

The new market location in Pikesville is open every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
