Man On Md. Fishing Outing Stabbed

DENTON, Md. (AP) -- A Denton man has been charged with stabbing his fishing mate during an outing at Crouse Park in Caroline County.

Police say 30-year-old Michael Lawrence II of Henderson and 46-year-old John Murray of Denton were fishing with several other people on Friday when they began play fighting. But when Lawrence knocked Murray down, police say Murray became angry and stabbed Lawrence in his abdomen.

WBOC-TV reports that Lawrence underwent surgery at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Murray is charged with attempted second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and other offenses. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail.

The Maryland State Police dive team is scheduled to search the Choptank River for the knife believed to have been used in the alleged assault.
