BWI Thurgood Marshall Keeps People Moving During Security Checks

LINTHICUM, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is once again coming out on top when it comes to airport service. This time it has to do with how fast you can make it through security.

Monique Griego has more on why BWI is tied for number one.

Get it off and get it through. When it comes to airport security, the faster the better.

"You want to get through. You want to get on the plane," said Angela Roberts, passenger.

If fast and hassle-free is what you want, then it seems BWI is the place to be.

"It's very quick, especially in the morning," said one passenger.

BWI's security wait time is tied for the best in the country, according to travel website Farecompare.com.  Passengers typically only wait around five minutes in line.

"It's very easy. It's a lot easier than Dulles. No stress really," said Bianca Giosa, passenger.

Along with BWI, Boston's Logan, Philadelphia International, Charlotte/Douglas International, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport also had five-minute wait times.

Passengers say running into a slow security line can be one of the biggest traveling headaches.

So what's setting BWI apart?

"It's about communication with customers and about communication with TSA," said Paul Wiedefeld, Airport Administrator.

Despite continued security upgrades, BWI has managed to keep passengers moving.  Travelers say that in itself can make for a worry-free trip.

"A little bit more at ease that if I'm running behind...I'm going to be able to get through and get on my plane no problem," said a traveler.

The longest wait time was at Northern Virginia's Dulles International Airport. Passengers there spent 31 minutes in line.
