Girl Seriously Hurt By Truck On Western Md. Road

OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Garrett County Sheriff's Office says a 9-year-old girl is being treated for serious injuries after she was hit by a pickup truck on a western Maryland highway.

The agency says the girl and her mother were walking on opposite sides of U.S. 219 north of Oakland on Tuesday morning after something blew out of their pickup truck bed. The girl tried to cross the road and was hit by a southbound vehicle at about 7:45 a.m.

The sheriff's office say the truck driver wasn't at fault and won't be charged.

Deputies say the girl was taken to Garrett Memorial Hospital.
