Ministers Opposed To Slots, Games At Md. Track

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) -- Three dozen ministers say they plan to fight against adding slot machines or table games at Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George's County.

The Washington Post reports that the ministers and other members of the Collective Empowerment Group have sent a letter to Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley saying they are opposed to additional gaming in the county.

The group has worked to expand economic opportunities for its membership, which it says includes 150 churches.

The letter comes as Penn National Gaming Inc., Rosecroft's new owner, plans to reopen for simulcasting on Thursday. The company said Monday that live racing will resume on Oct. 21.
