queen anne's death

QUEENSTOWN, Md. (AP) — The Queen Anne County Sheriff’s Office says an 85-year-old woman was killed when a tree felled by Hurricane Irene’s high winds knocked a chimney through the glass roof of the sunroom where she was sitting.

Authorities say after the power went out in Anne Bell’s home in Queenstown on Saturday evening, she and her son were sitting in the glass sunroom, which has an auxiliary power source. When high winds blew a tree into the chimney attached to the sunroom, the sheriff’s office says Bell was struck by debris from the chimney, tree and sunroom walls, causing severe trauma.

Bell was taken to Queen Anne’s County Emergency Center, where she died. State officials have not reported other storm-related deaths. Her son was treated for injuries from falling debris and released.
